Vaman is one of the five therapies of Panchakarma in Ayurveda. Vaman means therapeutic vomiting which is a medicated emesis. This treatment is done for the aggravated Kapha dosha, which dislodges the toxins mainly from the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. This therapy is done for preventive & curative purposes. Ayurveda believes that different seasons have a great influence on the aggravation of doshas, ex: Kapha in Hemant (spring season), Pitta in Sharada (winter) season and Vata in Greeshma (summers) season. Basti is one of the main procedures of Panchakarma. Basti is administered by the introduction of medicated fluid into the colon. Basti therapy balances and nurtures Vata. As Vata governs all body movement, it plays a major role in the disease process, because it can move both nutrients and toxins around the body, and if unbalanced, can cause disease. By managing Vata we gain control of the disease process before it goes into the migratory phase. Ayurveda uses the colon as the primary pathway to eliminate and nourish the body. Nasya is a process wherein the drug (medicated oils and liquid medicines) is administered through the nostrils. Since a nose is the gateway to the head, the therapy is highly effective in curing a number of diseases pertaining to the head, if it is performed systematically. The therapy cleanses and opens the channels of the head, which has a direct influence on the functioning of brain. The therapy is beneficial if done on a regular basis, because it keeps the eyes, nose and ear healthy. It also prevents the early greying of hair and beard. Raktamokshan is the fifth treatment in line. It helps in clearing the dosha residing in the deep tissue & is the best remedial solution for Rakta shuddhi.Rakt is an important dhatu in our body. It cures the diseases related to vitiation of rakt dhatu. Two methods are used for raktamokshan therapy. Uttarbasti is an important Panchakarma procedure for the genitourinary disorders of both, males and females. The therapy involves the administration of a specific medicinal oil, decoction into the urinary bladder or uterus. In this procedure, medicine is instilled in the Uterus in females per vagina or the bladder in males and females per urethra. All aseptic precautions are followed. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. It is carried out for three consecutive days or as required.
