Raktamokshan is the fifth treatment in line. It helps in clearing the dosha residing in the deep tissue & is the best remedial solution for Rakta shuddhi. Rakt is an important dhatu in our body. It cures the diseases related to the vitiation of rakt dhatu. Two methods are used for Raktamokshan therapy. They are Siravedh – in which blood is drawn up to 30 to 100 ml with the help of intricate from a vein. It is applied in systemic or generalized disease. Jaloukavcharan – in which blood is drawn with the help of leeches to cure localized diseases or pain. Raktamokshan cures skin diseases, headaches, acute pain at localized sites, psoriasis, gout, Leprosy, Leucoderma, Depigmentation, Haemorrhoids, Pruritis, Spleen disorders, Mouth ulcers, etc.

Basti introduces medicated oils and medicated decoctions into the colon. It treats the entire length of the colon. In addition to getting rid of toxins, it restores healthy function to the colon and through the colon, nurtures and rebuilds all body tissues.

This treatment is usually administered for three days after Vamana treatment, but its duration may vary from case to case. In fact, Virechana can be administered directly after Purva karma, without undergoing the Vamana therapy that precedes Virechana.


  • Raktamokshan is an effective blood purification therapy, in which carefully controlled removal of small quantities of blood is conducted to neutralize accumulated toxins of many blood-borne diseases. It provides a rapid and sometimes dramatic reduction of symptoms in certain acute disorders.

  • In the procedure of Raktamokshan therapy or bloodletting therapy, impure blood is drained out of the body through various means leech application, needle pricking, venesection, etc.


  • It has been specified in Ayurveda's text that Raktamokshan Ayurvedic's treatment of Panchakarma works both as curative as well as preventive therapy. As in all Ayurvedic medicine, the Basti Karma is regarded as a partial or even a complete treatment method, similarly, in the Ayurveda surgery texts, Raktamokshana is considered as the partial or complete treatment in itself.
